6. Executive Summary

The main purpose of the IT Caravan in Svay Rieng is to promote ICT awareness in the region of Cambodia. The workshop was started at 8:30 AM.

Open speech of workshop was started by Mr. Tum Saravuth Rector of Svay Rieng University, he showed about some information of his university. He also expressed his contentment about IT Caravan at his university. Moreover, he explained participants about the meaning and the advantages of ICT, and hoped that all participants would get new knowledge from this workshop.

Mr. Phal Des Chef of IT Committee of EIC has provided the keynote speech of ICT relate to the workshop. He mentioned about the advantages and usefulness of ICT in Education, Social Development, Communication, and Agricultural Development. Furthermore, he told the participants about some information of Khmer Unicode “MyClass” Software (E-learning Platform), and hoped that the students would use it in the near future.

After the speech the training was started by two CICC ex-trainees and a skillful member of IT Committee of EIC. There are 4 ex-trainees and a skillful member of IT Committee participated in the training:

• Mr. Tum Saravuth
• Mr. Heng Sokchea

The first step, Mr. Uch Leang who is a CICC ex-trainee started his course of Agricultural IT. The course mentions on

• Use computers to control the water & fertilizer situation of rice field
• Use computers to control the climate of domestic animal and egg of chicken and duck.
• Send and get information of agriculture by using Internet
• Find agricultural markets by using Internet

Introducing about Applying IT into Agriculture

After the break Mr. Kim Meng who is a CICC ex-trainee of multimedia on site-training course started his introduction of using Internet and email. The main idea of this training is deliver the basic knowledge of using Internet and basic computer.

• The first steps he told the participant about experiences of his job that cannot disconnect from Internet.
• He talked the overall of using internet and the advantage such as it just using only one mouse with a computer that connected to Internet it seem that they are facing to the world, “You can get many thing from internet just only sit and click the mouse" he said.
• Then he started his lesson by showing step by step his Power Point slides
• After he finished his slides he continued to open an Internet Explorer and do a practical show on Yahoo mail. How to sign up, send, receive and read mails.
• And then he showed how to search content by using search engine Yahoo and Google.

Next session, Mr. Heng Sokchea who is a skillful member of IT Committee explained about “MyClass” Software

• First, he talked about IT development and proposed to all teachers and students to study and use computer more often, in order to get knowledge and benefit from this technology.
• He started to talk about the benefits and reasons of using “MyClass”, and compare the learning by using ICT with the current style of teaching and learning.
• He explained the advantages of “MyClass” and some manners for using this software
• Finally he showed some practical uses with LCD Projector to all participant

At the last session, four ex-trainees and 3 IT Committee staffs assisted of using Internet and MyClass Software in the lab with 10 computers.

7. Conclusion

• Most of participants suggest having the kind of this workshop in Svay Rieng Province again next time
• Some participants were excite because of teacher are still young but they can do a very good job in teaching them
• Most of participants said that the duration of workshop should be longer than this
• Most of participants were happy with that training because it gave them many knowledge of new Information Technology
• Most of participants have known and remember CICC and IT Committee of EIC
• IT Committee has provided “MyClass” Software to Svay Rieng University, and it was put in the library for teachers and students (Intranet System)
• They want a program to train students and teachers of Svay Rieng University more detail about “MyClass”, Khmer Unicode applications.
• They want to get scholarship of distance-learning
